Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I begin all students with the appropiate level of the Alfred's method. If they have had training with another method, I work to blend that method with the Alfred's method during the first month or two of lessons. Once the student has learned the fundamentals, I introduce them to the solo repertoire appropriate for their level and their genre of greatest interest to them. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with basic elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo reperoire, appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in,find thesongs accordingly to the students ability and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student,their level of ability and age that determine the course of study.It also depends on the instrument.Some instruments like piano,violin or viola,books are more practical because the music is notated.With most fretted instruments,music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. I believe that while learning to read and write sheet music, developing technique and feel, and understanding music theory are all important, the most integral part of learning an instrument - as fundamental as it sounds - is to use your ears!
