In addition, I like to incorporate my student's interests into their goals. For instance, for my guitar students, I like to set a realistic goal (a song they want to be able to play) and tailor my lessons towards my student being able to play that, while at the same time learning their fundamentals, or whatever else is in their lesson plan for that session.
