Piano - I find that no one method book is completely standalone, so i incorporate several method books...Piano Adventures, John Thompson's course, Piano Pronto, and some self-composed music for my youngest students!  Intermediate-level pianists start choosing some of their own repertoire as well. I believe all students can be successful, and each person develops at their own rate. I believe that anyone who begins taking music lessons should have a goal in mind, whether it is for the near or far future. Goals such as learning a specific song, wanting to be able to accompany themselves to sing, or just because they believe music is great, it doesn't matter. I have been teaching clarinet and piano since 2019. For each student, I focus on developing healthy practice habits (physically mentally) that allow them to be efficient and rewarded by their time spent with the instrument. I help students build a strong foundation of fundamentals so they are able to be successful working on more advanced literature. My teaching tools include some of the well known basic instruction books and I add to that with student-specific exercises and assignments. I like to see some playing, learn technique music theory, but like to apply everything to something useful to the student. Each instrument has challenges and their own personality. For beginning students, I begin with basic open chords and scales. Once the student has basic chords down I like to teach them a song of there choosing. I found this to be one of the most rewarding experiences when I began taking lessons. For adults, I like to hear any ideas they may have and give my input and direction.
