For three summers in a row, I attended a summer program for opera in New Mexico. At LEOI, I got to work with coaches and instructors of excellent caliber and reputation in the opera world. For all my beginning students, we start with the Essential Elements book 1 for the fundamentals. Depending on a student's music-reading ability, we can jump to book 2 or a more advanced book, though the ability to read music is not the end-all-be-all of determining skill level. Two books I find myself using with my intermediate and advanced students are the Wohlfahrt etudes and Trott's Melodious Double-Stops. I tend to write a lot of my own warm-ups and exercises for students depending on their individual needs, especially if the student is more interested in pop, rock, or country as opposed to classical. Formal lessons are a new thing to me, but as far as teaching goes I’ve taught friends and colleagues along my music school career a thing or two about music production, theory, as well as guitar and piano techniques here and there. Teaching comes as a natural thing for me and I’ve lots of experience and knowledge I would love to pass on. I’ve been playing in and out of bands and ensembles for the past 5 years or so, but writing scores and music of my own has been what I’ve dedicated my time to. Read More

The classical repertoire will reinforce the technique and specific lessons covered. The other pieces should also reinforce specific concepts and skills, but should be music the student enjoys. I strive to keep the lessons and the practice time engaging and rewarding. I cannot stress enough that music is a talent, and just as importantly a skill that anyone can develop. I love teaching music and am very excited to have the chance to teach new students in the Tulsa area. I grew up in Broken Arrow where I was a member of the Pride playing flute and piccolo. I also was in the Tulsa Youth Symphony and All State Orchestra. I am very happy to be back in the Tulsa area. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma State University, Master of Music degree from University of Minnesota, and a Master of Science degree in Music Education from Syracuse University.
