In my teaching style I have specific skills in technique, literacy and interpretation that I believe are important; these are drawn from traditional classical values and the folk elements I learned between ages fifteen and twenty-five. I put passion and enjoyment of the music above all else. I keep things casual, light and fun in terms of energy, but focused and diligent in terms of practice. I love finding the soul of the song and pulling out the passion of the student so that they are engaged and intrigued by whatever we're doing at all times. I've loved teaching since I first tried it in high school, when I mentored my own friends in the art of drumming. It's the perfect gig; I get to nerd out every day about the musical things that I'm passionate about with my students! When they are more serious, I try to establish a 45 minute practice regiment that the student should do everyday that can range from certain warm ups, scales and even sight reading if the student is inclined to dive into that musical world. In my teaching, I am always focused on transmitting the technique and knowledge for sophisticated playing, regardless of the style.
