Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

While I do teach students to read music and teach the theory behind tunes and compositions that we learn, I think that the MOST important element in anyone's pursuit of musical proficiency lay in the ability to connect what one hears to what one plays. Ear training therefore is a large component. I do use the time honored texts by Hal Leonard and Alfred publications or some from Mel Bay and those from Jay Traylor as well as many others such as the Real Book and Greg Fishman texts. Read More

I believe in making each lesson personal and fun. I pay close attention to how each student learns best. I start with the basics, building solid technique and gradually introducing more challenging pieces. I love incorporating short theory lessons as my students advance, and with my younger students, I play theory games so they can remember music being made fun! While I use traditional method books, such as Suzuki, I also incorporate pieces my students want to learn. (Example: Disney songs). Read More

I believe communication is of the upmost importance. I communicate with parents to let them know how the student is doing, what we are working on, and what to do next. As mentioned above, I tailor to my student's needs based on their understanding and pace. Some students move a little slower than others in certain areas, and some move faster. For example, one student of the same age may understand sheet music quickly, but have a hard time with scales. Read More

Once we've established a basic working of character and music theory we will begin to learning the anatomy of our instruments and how to handle and care for them. Now the fun part begins. We will then immediately dive into making noise, chords, warm up practices and small challenge games on the instrument! 3rd sessions we will begin to focus on the student's interest in genre styles and selected pieces of music. I use a number of resources to teach students concepts in musical performance. This includes online resources and method books that enhance fundamentals and technique. I do believe that understanding of music theory is necessary to advance beyond the intermediate level, and this system has assisted in training many students over the years. Novice students are encouraged through movement and activities to teach concepts while intermediate players are given exercises that focus on instrumental technique to strengthen musicality.
