My teaching experience began at a young age. I started volunteering lessons for the youth in my church. I played keyboard on the worship team for several years and some youth students showed interest so I would teach them every now and then. In 2017, I started teaching private lessons at a studio in Fort Worth. I try to get to know each student a little in the introduction/first lesson. I ask about their music goals and where they would like to be in a few months to a year. We talk about their favorite styles of music and artists. I am so excited to see my students progress and learn a new chord, play a new song well, sing a more challenging song, increase their vocal range, and become excited about their new musical skills! Personally, I am more of a visual learner than I am an auditory learner, and that is reflected in my teaching style. I like using handouts when I teach guitar lessons, and I often refer back to them. For Band students I normally use the method used in class or I will use the Ed Suede Band method. I like this method because it starts out very basically and simply and gradually increases in difficulty. Voice students must first pass an Audiation test which is essentially a test of their sense of pitch. From there I begin with vocalizations followed by singing materials.
