The teaching methods I use for young beginners are a combination of Kodaly and Orff (both standard methods of public school music) as well as straight traditional notation and music theory ('tablature' is usually reserved for older, more experienced students). I'm a firm believer in teaching the fundamentals of music, while at the same time, making it fun and engaging for the learner.
