I started playing the flute before 6th grade and instantly fell in love with the flute and with music. Inspired by the wonderful music teachers I had over the years, I strive to provide that same level of care, knowledge, fun, and passion for music to all of my students. In 2011, I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. Due to lessons being customized for each student various method materials will be used including: method books, theory books, performance books, and my own materials that are created to fit the students' needs. After a level assessment during the first lesson music, including books, practice materials, and solos will be chosen to meet that level and be age appropriate. Lesson pacing will be set at an appropriate rate so that older students will be taught at a faster rate than a young beginner so that each student is given the best experience possible while still having fun! I was involved in the music program in my church as a teenager singing in the youth choir and playing in the handbell choir. I first started music at a young age through my local church; my first instrument being flute. I studied flute for many years before taking formal voice lessons. This led me to become a voice performance major at the Manhattan School of Music, where I sang lead roles in and outside of the school. In addition, I continued my flute studies as well as strengthen my piano skills. I like to begin all my students on a combination of technical studies and enjoyable/familiar melodies. This will help them learn the fundamentals in a rewarding way, because as they progress they will continue to learn new songs week after week. This is much more rewarding than checking of series of technical exercises. Additionally it is important to have both small goals to achieve each week and large goals to achieve over a number of months, so my students can be aware and proud of their progress over time.
