Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Lessons follow a predictable flow. We always begin with tone warm-ups. I enjoy incorporating fun activities to teach tone, such as blowing across different sized objects to learn what it feels like when the air stream splits. We sing while playing to learn throat and jaw posture, have competitions to see who can hold a note longest to develop air support, etc. After tone, we work on technique, usually scales or etudes. I usually start out using the Rubank Method, but I frequently incorporate some Suzuki and other ear training methods as well. I also like to use Trevor Wye's books for more advanced students. I like to expose all students to a classical repertoire of performance pieces, using basics for beginners and progressing in difficulty as the student gains more control of the instrument. I use a variety of books with etudes, or studies, to give students a strong background in technique while also teaching various musical concepts such as theory and improvisation. Read More
