I began teaching within my first two years of college. Due to the Covid pandemic, my students lessons were on hold. While that experiences has carried with me, online lessons are a great way to get started from the comfort of your own home! I, myself, have taken two years of online lessons and improved so much despite being in different places. Much of my training has been classical, built on a foundation of music theory. My first instrument, the piano, gave me a strong basis in rhythm and connecting how music works. My first goal is to help you have fun! Music is a stress-reliever, and a brain builder that is only enjoyable when we work toward things you are interesting in. Yes, we will work on music theory and technique, but it will be tailored to motivate progress on your current piece. While regular practice is important, we can tailor the speed and intensity of curriculum to your schedule. Remember- just fifteen to twenty focused minutes a day can do wonders. Students are encouraged to perform in any way possible when they can! We will also have recitals each semester. Take every opportunity to grow and be proud of what you have learned! I'm always looking to book beginner students of all ages.

For beginning students who are children, we typically start with one lesson going over the basics of our instrument. For example- what are these different parts? How do I clean it? How do I hold it? Then we jump right in and start making sounds! After a lesson or two of fun exercises just with the instrument itself, we can move on to a methods book. Using a book for school band? Great, lets use it! We can work off of any material you have, in addition to "A Beginner's book for the Flute" by Trevor Wye. Since we work online, I will send over notes and material shared following every lesson to refer back to. The great thing about using a Zoom or Webex account is that I can 'screen share' images or interactive elements that will make the lesson engaging. No matter the level, lets chat and make a custom plan for you!
