I am a musical hobbyist who has 16 years of experience playing in small bands in St. Louis, Chicago, and the Central Illinois area. I am a drummer first and foremost, but I play guitar and bass guitar as well. I have a non-music degree and have spent the past few years working as a full time zookeeper. While at my zoo, I served as intern coordinator so while I am largely new to teaching music, I have extensive experience as a trainer and mentor. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Drums, Synthesizer, Latin Percussion, Keyboard, Djembe
Music is for self expression, but it is also an art. I am not a competitive musician. When we improve, I believe it's because we compete with ourselves, and improve on our own terms. At the same time, if you are competing for a concert chair, recital etc., we'll set solid goals to get you to where you need to be. No matter your skill level, I'll introduce something that you enjoy and in a style you love. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I approach lessons by striking a balance between what the student wants to work on and instilling the fundamental skills that are needed to approach whatever they want to learn. Students will learn stick technique, rudiments, reading, and limb independence/coordination. I also focus on Moeller technique and ergonomics around the drum kit, while helping students find a setup that works for them as they find their own voice. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Violin, Cello, Viola, Flute, Drums, Bass Guitar, Organ, Electric Violin, Double Bass
I have an interactive yet focused style of teaching. I can(but don't recommend) to use the Suzuki method. I feel that all aspects related to the instruments weigh much importance in teaching the student. However, with the Suzuki method, the student's primary focus is to learn pieces rapidly and climb the level of difficulty as fast as possible. This prevents him/her to fully understand and analyze the piece and lesson and it can also turn the student away from pursuing the instrument further. Read More
Instruments: Drums, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Latin Percussion
We will began with two drumsticks and a pad. Core fundamentals are the building blocks for everything we do behind the kit. We will first need to get the mechanics working before we drive the car. How to hold the sticks, how to strike a drum, and the basic of reading rhythms, will be the focus of the first 2-3 lessons. It is at this point we can start putting the two together. Read More
