As we work through the scales I'll have the student read short songs and excerpts from Hal Leonard's "Piano Adventures Performance" book. As the student grasps the fundamentals I will then assign level appropriate solo pieces for them to perform. Beginner drum students will follow the same model by starting with rudiments and the different pieces of the drum set/djembe. If the students already had books from prior music instructor, we pick up from the last lessons after answering questions to make sure the students thoroughly understand the previous lessons from the previous chapters. For beginning students, I've used the Mel Bay's modern bass and guitar methods, James Bastien piano library, Essential Elements for wind instruments, Advanced Rock drumming and Master theory books by Charles S.
