For beginning students, we will spend a good amount of the first few lessons in developing core fundamentals. Once we have a solid foundation, I will start to add in some exercises. I work out of many books to expose my students to different methods of playing. For more advanced students, I will work with them on developing more characteristic sounds. I believe that anyone who begins taking music lessons should have a goal in mind, whether it is for the near or far future. Goals such as learning a specific song, wanting to be able to accompany themselves to sing, or just because they believe music is great, it doesn't matter. I realize that not everyone can is able or willing to practice six hours a day, so I work with each student individually to find their pace. I am happy teaching both competitive students (I have had several students participate successfully in the ABRSM exams) and students who play purely for enjoyment.
