Since graduation, I was the director of jazz at Valor Voyager Academy, working in conjunction with Jazz Empowers, a nonprofit that installs and maintains jazz bands as an after school activity for schools with no music program. My efforts since my engagement at Valor Voyager have been centered around performing, and; though fruitful, I feel that I am at my best when I am teaching. I have been teaching privately for about four years. Most recently, I was awarded the Graduate Teaching Position at Bemont University for my final semester. I was in charge of weekly instruction for seven students, conducting both classical and commercial seminars, and leading Jazz Band and Small Group. For beginning students enrolled in their school band program, I start with their materials required from class. If a student is not enrolled in a band program, I typically start with Standards of Excellence or Measures of Success methods depending on individual needs.
