Learning to play the cello is hard work, but it is fun work! Playing music solo or in a group setting is a unique experience. All my students play chamber music along with their private lessons. I encourage my students to participate in our semi-annual recitals. Recitals are an important milestone to mark progress and share the gift of music with listeners. I recently completed my Bachelor of Music in cello performance at the University of Colorado Boulder, graduating with highest honors. As Seattle native, I have played music all across the United States and Canada, attending such prestigious summer festivals as Académie d’Orford Musique, the Meadowmount School, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Indiana Summer String Academy and Interlochen Center for the Arts. As a passionate chamber musician, I have performed on the Jacobsen Faculty Series at the University of Puget Sound and the Pendulum New Music Series at the University of Colorado Boulder, in addition to working closely with members of the Takács, Tokyo, Shanghai and Altius string quartets. I believe anyone has the ability to learn music. I feel it is my duty to help my students discover their own musical path. I got the chance to be instructed by great minds like Viktor Uzur (known worldwide for the Richter/Uzur Duo) and work along side talented students like Fan Ya Lin (pianist with a professorship at Julliard). Haeyoon is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music where she received Masters degree with a full scholarship under the Performance 20/20 program, a prestigious chamber-intensive program. She began her chamber studies soon after starting cello with her siblings and have performed in community events and ceremonies since. She is a winner of many competitions, including: the Regional Solo Ensemble Competition at the high school level, a series of first prizes at the Renton Young Artists Competition, the Marjorie Easley National Strings Competition, and the Individualis International Competition.
