I don't use one single method in my teaching. I firmly believe that strictly adhering to a single stylistic method produces strictly one-dimensional students. I encourage all my beginners to use Suzuki, especially in the development of their musical ear. I like to add solo and ensemble repertoire based on the student's unique musical personality, and because every body is different, I tailor all technical work to fit the student's specific physical needs, challenges, and strengths. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. My emphasis is on performance and motivating the student. I set goals for performance at the early stages of study whether it's for family and friends or at an open mic or in church. Without performance as a goal it's hard to motivate the student to practice. I analyze each student's individual learning style whether it's visual or auditory and find ways to help them learn faster and securely.
