I found myself wanting to teach students, of all ages- anyone that had a desire to learn the cello. With regard to my private studio, I teach using the traditional method. I believe every student needs a foundation of classical music. If a student wishes to learn other genres, I am happy to support those interests as well. I teach music primarily through reading. I incorporate some ear training. I also teach music theory and music history within a given lesson, because it is my believe that theory and history assist students in having a greater understanding of why they are performing what they are and how to interpret the work. I have been a musician almost my whole life, starting out as a singer in a children's church choir when I was five. I started playing cello in the fourth grade through the public school system in California. I am classically trained, but I love all different styles of music. One of my strengths as a string player is improvisation. I have played with many different pop, rock, and folk bands over the years and that's the kind of music I enjoy playing the most. Read More

Every student learns differently and at their own speed, so I make it a priority to adjust my teaching style to fit my students individual needs. As a tactile learner myself, I tend to encourage each student to bring a pencil to their lessons, to mark their music in whatever way helps them, as well as colored pencils to highlight dynamics and articulation. I had the opportunity to be the leader of the cello section, where some of my responsibilities included preparing the cello section with weekly sectionals for performances, as well as playing the cello solos in the orchestra. I believe that music lessons should have the performance as a goal, but actually enjoying each day of practicing.
