I currently teach out of my home studio and I have been a guitar teacher on electric guitar,acoustic and bass guitar for 29 years. I teach all styles, rock,blues,jazz,classical,funk,r and b,country and have taught all age groups from beginners to advanced. I also do guitar repair, complete setups,and custom guitar builds.I started teaching guitar because I want to share the gifts God has given me,and I enjoy sharing music both live performance and teaching.I try to make learning fun,easy, and eventually would like to see students ability to teach themselves.I create lessons based on an individual basis so people get to learn how to play the kind of music they enjoy best. I don't not use practice/lesson books. Unless the student wants to use it , I don't insist. I approach each student differently . I take it at their speed. Depending on the age and personality, I cater each lesson to the individual. If they are younger students, I'll use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books, but sometimes I will make a custom book that builds with their development and learning style. I believe reading sheet music is important, but understand that being able to play along with other musicians using ear training and improv skills, as well as reading chord charts, is just as necessary. Initially self-taught, I went on to study guitar with John Dearman (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), Molly Miller (Jason Mraz, Black Eyed Peas), Thomas Echols, Dragos Ilie (Austin Guitar Quartet), and Adam Holzman at The Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin where I earned my BM.
