Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. For guitar, I usually start with basic music theory. Scales, learning the notes of the guitar, easy chords. Then I'll just start teaching you whatever you'd like to learn! Most of the time I teach songs. To me, it's the fastest and most fun way to learn guitar. For singing, first I will assess where you are at currently. Then I'll teach the basics of proper breathing technique, vocal exercises and warm ups, and then after you've gained more strength in your voice, we will start practicing with songs you enjoy and that fit your vocal style. I began teaching voice 6 years ago, while still in my own undergraduate studies. Teaching bass and piano quickly followed once I realized how much I enjoyed the teaching side of music. I learned to love music at an early age, which got me into taking lessons, and eventually learning the process that is required to move a student forward. My teaching philosophy boils down to one simple principle: singing is an athletic endeavor. Training the voice means training the body. Just as you can't learn to throw an accurate curve ball by reading a book, you can't strengthen the muscles that lead to a healthy singing technique by simply talking about it; you've got to train your body to do it automatically. I emphasize stretching and breathing exercises that strengthen the diaphragm and allow your body to produce a free, healthy sound, and then work on focusing that sound in a way that keeps stress off the vocal cords and keeps your instrument healthy. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Grand Ole Opry WSM Radio Station, as well as touring the United States as several performances as the principle Vocalist in multiple bands.
