For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill. Because I learn a lot by performing, I also encourage my students to perform as often as possible, in whatever capacity they feel comfortable - auditions, recitals, musicals, gigs, concerts, karaoke, you name it! I believe it is really important to hone your craft on stage, in addition to constant practice in the studio and at home. I graduated in 2016, and started pursuing a career in audio production in film. For beginning children students I typically start with Hal Leonard or a similar reputable music book.  Once the students has a grasp of the fundamentals we will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their age and skill level.  For adult students, I find out what the student is interested in and create a lesson plan that is fun and challenging no matter their skill level. I studied the Suzuki method as a youngster so I understand the importance of ear training and sight reading. Read More
