I started to teach privately in June 2012, teaching both voice and early piano. I teach students out of their homes, or a space of their choice. I have mostly worked out of their local schools or churches. I encourage and emphasize regular practice on a consistent schedule. I encourage hard work, but also fun when practicing, and during lessons to help maintain a student's growth and interest. I encourage my students to enjoy their instrument and encourage them to find music they wish to learn that interest them, as well as classical pieces. Read More

I am a focused instructor and pursue progress. I come from a background of a love for music that turned into a desire to learn and perform. I owe everything I have become to my instructors, and I try to implement some of their technique into my teaching every chance I get. I have just recently graduated from a three-year master's program in voice performance. Since I've started that program, I have had the opportunity to travel Europe with a vocal ensemble, perform three times at the Grove Park Inn, act as diction coach for a professional opera chorus, and perform Mozart's Requiem. I take a very detailed and analytical approach to music performance, and this is reflected in my teaching. I believe many students look at a piece of music that seems too difficult and become too overwhelmed to realize that's it's not as difficult as it may first appear. By breaking down music into its components, pitch, rhythm, dynamic, articulation, etc., and tackling each item one at a time, students who thought of music as a strange and foreign language begin to see it as something that just works and makes sense. My teaching expereince dates back to before I graduated undergraduate school. Since I had a semester to wait for Commencement, I was afforded an opportunity to work as a Teacher assistant, in an Open Classroom Learning Environment. This immediately preceded a very rewarding Student Teaching experience in the rural southern state of North Carolina. I was as challenging an experience as I have ever had being that my travel mileage on some days was as much as 80 miles. Upon my return to New York, I was afforded an opportunity to teach Beginner Band Grades 4,5 and 6, per diem for one year.
