Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Student teaching had me in the elementary classroom teaching K-5 students the fundamentals of music as well as teach high school singers the importance of harmony and support in their singing; my first teaching job had me help middle school singers find their voices as they were actively changing and build a safe space for singers and musicians of all types. To me, performing and teaching are intertwined, enhancing each other. The more I develop my teaching skills, the better my understanding of my own performance practices and vocal technique will be; the stronger my performance skills become, the more I will be able to relate to my students experiences and be a more well-rounded resource for them. My educational studies have included a Master's in Classical Voice and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University Steinhardt, and a Master's in Vocal Performance Literature and a Bachelor's in Vocal Music Education from Eastern Illinois University. I've been teaching from as early as middle school. I had my first two bassoon students in middle school. Throughout high school I was a teachers assistant to my band and choir directors and frequently led sectionals, class activities or solo lessons. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books. As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire. My voice students learn from a variety of sources. I usually start with a song they know well and work from there. Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques. Read More
