The more I develop my teaching skills, the better my understanding of my own performance practices and vocal technique will be; the stronger my performance skills become, the more I will be able to relate to my students experiences and be a more well-rounded resource for them. My educational studies have included a Master's in Classical Voice and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University Steinhardt, and a Master's in Vocal Performance Literature and a Bachelor's in Vocal Music Education from Eastern Illinois University. I've been teaching from as early as middle school. I had my first two bassoon students in middle school. Throughout high school I was a teachers assistant to my band and choir directors and frequently led sectionals, class activities or solo lessons. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books.  As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire.  My voice students learn from a variety of sources.  I usually start with a song they know well and work from there.  Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques.   Read More
