Therefore, I can provide anatomical details about the vocal mechanism to help you understand singing in a deeper level. For me, the most amazing aspect of teaching music is to assist students in developing a musical identity of their own. Nothing could be a greater blessing than to experience students cultivating a personal and profound relationship with the magic of music firsthand, and to be there to help them to further their passion is a gift beyond what I am capable of expressing in words. During our lessons we will address correct breathing and posture and different vocalises that will strengthen and free up the voice, giving the student more power, more range and more freedom/agility.  Singing with freedom is a different path for each singer, and I will prescribe different exercises for each area of the voice we are trying to improve.  You will also be assigned songs: some classical, some musical theater and then whatever genre is your favorite. My teaching experiences started when I was in college, a fellow classmate of mine needed help with some of her younger students and the world of music education opened up to me from there. I have been teaching steadily now for 7 years, working with students from ages 5-55. I have taught group and private lessons in music studios, students' homes, or my own home studio. My lesson style varies depending on the student's learning style, personality, preferences, etc. I usually get a sense of the learning style of a given student within 3 or 4 lessons, and if I don't I have a special test to find out. Students learn best when the teaching favors their learning style and preferred pace. Some students like to take things slow, be methodical, and are very visual. Others may want to apply concepts at a faster pace, respond more to auditory examples, and like to jump around between topics. Read More
