My teaching style is low-pressure but simultaneously focuses on technical ability, and music theory while fostering a unique voice in the student. I feel like students who develop their own voice in their music at an early stage of their education create a stronger passion for music in the long run thus more successful and enthusiastic musicians are made. Whether my student is interested in learning to read music or to play/sing by ear, my aim is to study music that is interesting to the student. I am a passionate, self-motivated, energetic music instructor who loves work with students and sharing my love of music. In 2016, I graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry and minored in Music Education. All students will deal with each of the basic vocal challenges (support, placement, registration, etc.), but not all will struggle in the same ways. Literature is assigned to focus on mastering those problem areas, then the skill is transferred to the student's own literature or other songs that the student is likely or planning to present publicly. For beginning students I have worked with Hal Leonard and Bastein.  Solo repetoire and Theory books may become part of their lessons as they progress. For advanced and adults, I have a beginner level or an advanced level. I try to find what they are interested in and allow advanced students to make one choice on their own and I may choose something for them to be challenged... Students who are being "coached" for a small amount of time may need to focus on their own repetoire for an audition-- in which case I will need the music send to me via PDF/mp3 for the extended work with the student's choice. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing. I must know what inspires the student so that I can successfully tailor my teaching, my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
