As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. My passion for teaching began in 2010 as a teaching assistant, teaching beginning music group lessons for first to third graders. Since then, I have been giving private lessons both in person and via online platforms. As a doctoral candidate, I am currently serving as a teaching assistant and instructing private technique lessons for college level students. For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book.
