Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. That is why I encourage a sense of play in playing the violin, as in the immediate relationship to one's sound, one is thinking of the whole, while they might be focusing on one part or another. This preserves the natural dependence of each part on the rest, and gives the students an everchanging sense of the whole which is essential to learning and, to me, is one of the greatest pleasures of learning the violin, as well as one of the most useful skills in life at large beyond making music. I've been teaching from as early as middle school. I had my first two bassoon students in middle school. Throughout high school I was a teachers assistant to my band and choir directors and frequently led sectionals, class activities or solo lessons. Advanced students should have a solid grasp of all the basic intervals of double-stops, and, in fact, should be able to play any combination of any two notes spanning up to a tenth, or as far as their fingers can reach. Thorough study of Dont and basic scale studies can help to achieve this, but it reaches its real application when one is able to play Paganini or Ysaÿe, and especially the works of Hindemith.
