As my students get into more advanced music, I select solo literature that best fits their musical abilities. My teaching method is based on Ivan Galamian and Dorothy Delay's teaching styles and tailoring it to the student's needs. For beginning to intermediate students, I focus my teaching on fundamental basics and techniques, tailoring the exercises and etudes based on the repertoire of each student. With more advanced students, I shift the emphasis towards music-making (color, character, pacing, phrasing), with a focus on efficient and effective combinations of sounding point, bow speeds, bow distribution and vibrato. For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. I have played the violin since I was 8 years old in school orchestras and small ensembles. I have also learned Irish traditional music in Ireland, from the Irish in music sessions and in more formal school settings. I spent 9 months there obtaining a Masters in Ethnomusicology.
