On strings I teach a modified Suzuki method, supplementing pieces of a student-requested style at technical benchmarks. Again, connection to music is critical and one of the ways to gain that is through personal involvement in lesson directions. For children, I teach piano from the Bastien method, whereas adults go with Alfred's All-In-One Course. Voice students will gain foundation through classical training and branch into other styles as they are ready. Read More

I treat adult beginners much the same I would treat an older child beginner, with a simple book that won't overwhelm them with too much information. If an adult student has some experience, I also do the same evaluation and tailoring approach as I would with a younger intermediate student. If my adult students have a specific piece or song they are interested in learning, I am more than happy to teach it to them. Read More

For beginning students doesn't matter the age, I typically start them off with All for Strings. Once the students has completed the book and understood the basic handling of a violin as well as reading notes, I'll introduce repertoire. I normally assist wth some school music or if there was something that particularly interested him/her, I'll assist. At times, I like to challenge my student to do some ear training. Read More
