I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. I want to give my student the experience of success from the start. With an appropriate printed resource, and audio recordings to listen to, they are equipped with the materials for self-study from the start. During the lesson itself, the student would be singing or playing at least half of the time. During this current stay-at-home lifestyle, I propose having lessons over Zoom. I would like to work toward a performance goal, such as playing at a recital, or playing in an ensemble. Read More

Good practicing habits and proper technique are key. Fundamentals are important for the creating of greater skill potential. In the beginning, I do focus on form as well as producing a good tone out of the violin. Piano is similar with form. I believe the skills used in learning music can be used in learning other skills in life. Having fun is the most important thing in my studio! This is achieved through setting and attaining specific goals and keeping a student engaged with the decision making process of what they want to play.
