I am a patient teacher and encourge students to work at their own pace. If we need to spend more time on a certain concept or technique than one lesson allows, we will. I want to make sure that they understand throroughly before moving on to the next concept. At the same time, I want my students to feel challenged in their lessons so that they will be willing to go home and put the work in during their practice time. Read More

My teaching style is student oriented meaning the more questions you bring me the better. I will allow students to learn at their own pace. For younger students I allow them to explor the instrument while showing them how to hold it and play. For older students I teach simple songs as well as scales and arpeggios. I tell students that if they only have 5 minutes a day, they should at least play scales. Read More

My teaching style can best be described as adaptable. Every student can learn and every student is different. Some students need structure, some need to be encouraged and some just need someone to help them polish their skills. Whatever the case may be, it is my job to meet the student where they are and provide support that balances what they need and their personal goals. In that balance is the key to finding long term enjoyment, success, and continued musical exploration. Read More

For violin and viola lessons, I start my beginning students off with the violin/viola instrument hold as well as the bow hold. Once one has gotten the feel for holding the instrument as well as the bow, I teach the student the open strings of the instrument, followed by a one octave scale, with basic note reading exercises. After that, I begin the student on the Suzuki method. For piano students, I start by teaching beginning students three notes in treble clef (right hand) and bass clef (left hand). Read More

My goal as a teacher not to make a professional musician from every student, but to introduce them to a great wold of music and make them fall in love with it. I love Mrs. Suzuki's quote:"Every child can".Yes, every student can learn to play an instrument at his or her own pace. But to do so they need to understand the importance of every day practice.I always encourage my students to participate in recitals and concerts, as this is a real opportunity to witness their progress.
