I have been teaching privately and in group classes for the past 6 years. This past summer, I taught a chamber orchestra of kids ages 6-12 in Narni, Italy. It was a truly rewarding experience. Most of my experience is with teaching private lessons. I am open to teaching all ages and levels. For violin, I teach mostly beginners and intermediate students, but can teach all levels for viola. I encourage my students to play recitals so that they can be proud of their accomplishments! Read More

I have been teaching music for over 15 years as a private teacher and also a class violin instructor and orchestra director. I have also served for many years as an adjudicator for Massachussetts All State Orchestras. Currently, I have an active private studio and teach 4 days a week at a public school in Brooklyn, leading a string orchestra there and teaching group violin, viola, and cello classes. There are about 300 students in my program. Read More

My teaching experience extends back to when I was a student volunteer in high school. I loved to teach the younger students as a junior/senior, and helped out with the "morning music" elementary program. I also taught middle school students with special needs how to play the violin when I was a senior, and assisted with after school tutorials. It was so exciting to see young students become just as passionate about music as I was, and that's what really solidified my desire to become a music teacher. Read More

Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I am a very supportive teacher but at the same I am very adamant about the student reaching their potential. I really go out of my way to help a student to grow as a musician, so they can feel how rewarding it is. I believe the role of teacher is a very important one and we make a big impact on student's lives. I like to keep things fun and positive, with an element of always knowing what the goal is ahead. I am warm and caring, and love to make my students laugh! I find that making mistakes can be much more beneficial than striving for perfection, and use these moments as crucial learning tools for students to move forward. I set goals with, not for, my students, and ask them to self evaluate before I give them my feedback. I provide students with detailed, structured practice plans that work with their schedules, and have high expectations for their time with their instrument (with, or without me). Read More
