I am a performer, conductor, and teacher based in Stillwater, OK. I began working on my Bachelor's of Music Education (BME) at the Oklahoma State University Greenwood School of Music, studying trumpet with Dr. Ryan Gardner and Orchestral Conducting with Dr. Thomas Dickey. Older children just beginning to enter the world of music will begin with the fundamentals of musicianship, sound, and breathing. From there I will progress to rhythm, pitch, and notation. When these skills are mastered I will get the students comfortable with their instruments and begin playing. Students that have a background in music with their instruments will be assessed to determine the level of teaching required. For my beginners, we focus heavily on creating familiarity with the horn by fostering an environment of healthy habits. Our primary concern with beginners is being comfortable enough with the horn to be i complete control of the demands asked at this level. My teaching experience started in 1998 while I was the lead keyboardist at my congregation in Los Angeles. At the time I ran a small 6 student studio at home. I also visited students in their home for convenience. I was not before long that I was able to teach a group sessions in my congregation for a few years of which several students were able to achieve their musical goals. For beginning students whose primary goal is membership in a school performance ensemble, I will usually choose a beginning band method that give them a good foundation in fundamental playing techniques. As they gain basic skills at this level, I expand the content of lessons to include easy solo repertoire.
