Each of my students goes at their own pace, and while I encourage them to stretch their abilities and interests, I always keep their own goals in mind. I try hard to help my students become real musicians and not just brass players, although helping students troubleshoot their brass specific problems and frustrations is all part of the process. I like to learn who my student is before starting anything. I want to know what their interests are and what their view on music is. I then take that and bond with them and teach them in a certain way that matches their thoughts and personalities the best. I like to have fun and not be too strict as long as the student is doing their work, but if they are not staying on track the fun is replaced with more focus on concepts to be sure they are learning what is needed. My teaching experience began in 2006. During my college years I taught trombone to fellow students and later as a college instructor and high school band director, taught young adults. My experience as an elementary school teacher has rewarded me with skills to work with younger children. I now work with seasoned musicians as a mentor and coach. I have fun too. I have various methods of teaching, all tailored to each students' strengths. However, all students will learn to be musicians and by becoming one, students will develop their personal styles and unique musical signature all while being coached in proper musical training. As each student learns to be a musician, they will also learn purpose in music which is the drive that will allow them to be successful. I have secured opportunities for students to be the opening act for Texas country star Jolie Holiday.
