I do my best to cater to each individual students needs.  For younger beginning studetns, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or whatever materials they are using in school.  For all of my students, even the more experienced ones, I work on building fundamentals and extending techniques.  Fundamentals are an essential cornerstone to build all other aspects of music upon.  Also from the very start of lessons, I like to have the student working on actual music, whether it be a simple song or more advanced solo repertoire, the goal of these lessons should be to better make music and have fun doing it! Students who are just beginning their instruments, no matter what point in life, are my favorite group to work with. I enjoy making sure students of all ages can begin their instrumental adventure with a solid foundation and the right knowledge to inspire self-efficiency. I have been playing/singing since 1980. My main instrument is Trombone but I have played Euphonium, Tuba, Trumpet, and Choir. I have been assisting Marching bands with the low brass section for the last 5 years. I have Taught privately for the last 10 years. I have performed in Community bands, orchestras,Jazz bands, Rock bands, Marching bands and Theater bands. I also take part in a holiday group that plays christmas carols for nursing home residents. My ultimate goal in teaching music students is to develop players who are intrinsically motivated. This is a long-term process which I enjoy guiding. I'm very interested in the psychology of motivation for each individual student, realizing that what "works" with one student may not be effective with another. I enjoy developing a relationship with individual students which is based on more than our involvement in music. I'm a firm believer that teaching individual lessons is about more than just music; it's a special one-on-one, teacher-student relationship which can have a positive, life-long impact. Read More
