My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms. I have volunteer experience doing 5 years of marching band and 2 of those 5 years, I was the section leader for the trumpet section. I also was an Intern as music teacher, student teaching, for 1 Semester of Senior year – 2017 – 2018. For my professional experience, I have done a few gigs on trumpet. I played at Messiah Lutheran Church in Reynoldsburg OH as a Trumpet Player for their Easter services.(4/21/19) and (4/1/2018). I do my best to cater to each individual students needs.  For younger beginning studetns, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or whatever materials they are using in school.  For all of my students, even the more experienced ones, I work on building fundamentals and extending techniques.  Fundamentals are an essential cornerstone to build all other aspects of music upon.  Also from the very start of lessons, I like to have the student working on actual music, whether it be a simple song or more advanced solo repertoire, the goal of these lessons should be to better make music and have fun doing it! In my lessons, I work hard to create a routine that best fits the students needs. This typically means that many of my students are not following a specific lesson plan or standard routine. Starting out, I stress fundamentals and warm-ups to help the students create a solid grasp of the instrument, before making the move towards solo repertoire. Of course, the older and more experience the student is will influence the difficulty of the routine, however, I always make sure that goals that I have set for a student are within reach. Read More

I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument.  Read More
