I began teaching students in earnest during my senior year of undergraduate school in 1984-85. Prior to graduate school I was an adjunct trumpet teacher at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Part of my graduate assistantship was as an instructor and since graduation I have helped a number of students from beginner to intermediate level achieve their goals in both classical and non classical settings. I started giving trombone lessons to grade and high school student's since 2005. In 2006 I started leading concert and jazz bands. Immediately out of college in 2008 I worked as a music teacher teaching guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and voice for 3 years. In 2011, I moved to Peru where I was the #1 on call jazz trombonist in Lima, and was a trombone professor at the National Conservatory of music where I taught trombone technique and jazz improvisation. My instruction follows a broad method of teaching technique as well as musicality. I use method books such as Arbans, Clarke, Frink, Schlossberg, Concone, as well as several etude books like the Voxman series, Charlier, and others. Depending on the student's knowledge, I can teach theory concepts so the student can better understand the broad aspects of composition and improvisation. I started studying music at a very early age. When I was four years old, I started taking organ lessons, followed by piano when I was 7 years old. During elementary school, I started playing the clarinet. In middle school, I started playing the oboe. During high school, I learned the english horn and alto saxophone.
