Music, for me, is more than a profession; it is a way of life. I graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with my Bachelors in Trombone Performance. I love to introduce young students to the exciting and ever evolving world of music. Performance has enabled me to participate in unforgettable moments, like playing in Davies Symphony Hall, the Berlin Philharmoniker, and various other venues accross the world. I taught private piano lessons to about 15 students ranging from 3 years old to 38 years old for about 2 years while teaching in the School District of Philadelphia full-time. During my time at Temple University I was in Premier Wind ensembles playing Euphonium and Trombone and performed with the Temple University Diamond Marching Band for 4 years. During my marching band experience I was featured on The Wolf on Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Annie starring Jamie Fox, and performed on stage with Fitz and The Tantrums in addition to weekly performances at Lincoln Financial Field Temple University football home games and at the Boca Raton Bowl Game. I've played trombone for eleven years and have stuck with it for love of the instrument. I attended the LA County High School for the Art for three years, through which time I became serious about learning music. I went on to earn the Bob Cole Conservatory Scholarship at CalState Long Beach. My favorite courses were Brass Chamber Music and my various music history courses. I discovered a passion for Latin music history, and spent my last semester of college teaching music and English in Barcelona, Spain. Read More

After I first received my Bachelor's Degree from CSU Fullerton, I opted to showcase my original music through distinct outlets. One of the resulting projects, themattsmithneujazztrio, has recorded three full-length records; my other project, JUICEBOX, has recorded two. I gained a masters of music in jazz drum set from California Institute of the Arts, where I was honored to record my own composition for the CalArts, 30th Annual Jazz CD at Capitol Records. My teaching experience immediately began after high school, as I began teaching lessons part time I wanted to grow more as an educator and grasped at the opportunity . I got the opportunity to become a marching band coach for high school.
