My teaching style is guided by several simple principles: 1.  Its all about two things; the MUSIC and RELATIONSHIPS. 2. It has to be FUN, or why do it? 3. Nothing is more satisfying (and fun) than getting better at playing an instrument. 4. To get better (and have more fun) you have got to WORK at it. (Hello, practice room!) 5. In order to motivate and help the student progress, I get to know the student as well as possible, model good playing and practice habits ( I play during lessons a LOT, and draw up sample practice plans for students depending on their needs and interests), help them establish GOALS, and use ENTHUSIASM, PATIENCE, PERSISTENCE, and EXPERIENCE to guide them along their musical journey. I fell in love with classical music while watching Leonard Bernstein conduct the NY Philharmonic as a young boy.In 1979 I graduated from Eastern Nazarene College with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Music Education. For the past 40 plus years I have taught music to children and adults in school and church settings, and at a performing arts center.
