I am an instructor who has taught beginning to high school band instruments for more than 30 years My greatest joy in teaching comes from the students having fun while achieving a high level of performance. My degrees are all in teaching and I am familiar with many different teaching styles. I have helped many students achieve medals and awards in both group and individual performances. I especially love watching beginners become fluent on their instruments and the confidence they get from being able to play a real songs.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days when I began teaching a small clarinet choir at a private school close to my campus. I graduated from college and began working as a middle school band director. During the middle part of my career I was the assistant director for the local high school band, but my true love was working with the middle school students. I remained a head middle school director until my retirement a few years ago. I have moved to a new state and miss teaching so decided to teach lessons out of one of the rooms of my home. I look forward to sharing years of practical experience with your band student.
For beginning students I focus on getting them used to the first 5 most common notes on their instrument through both beginner methods and technical exercises. I can use whatever method they already have or I can recommend a method for us to study. For more advanced students I work with them through any required music they may have (if a band student at a school) or through solo and more advanced technical exercises along with genres they find interesting. For an adult who wishes to begin we would follow the same type beginning but then allow the free choice of music and difficulty level in which they are interested.
Nothing is more rewarding than being a part of instilling the love of music in a student. That is why I believe that it is important not only to work on a high level of achievement, but to have fun while doing it. Music performance comes at different levels and different speeds. We move at the rate that the student needs without stress. I am well versed in many different learning styles and can adapt each lesson for the unique student I am working with. I look forward to hearing the success of each student.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
