I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification. For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance. I graduated in 1981 from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Trombone Performance. I love how music is more than notes on a page. They're expressions of oneself. Knowing how to interpret these notes is very important to learning the fundamentals of music.
