I teach music, not just instruments. I try to develop a broad appreciation for music that will stay with my students wherever they go in life. I take an individualized approach based on learning styles and strengths. I believe in positive reinforcement, especially with younger students! I also take into account preferences for music styles and attempt to use repertoire that not only broadens their experience, but keeps students focused and interested. Read More

For beginners, I typically start with fundamentals and technique combined with the, Essential Elements 2000. Once the student gets in track, I start introducing more advanced book such Rubank, J.H Luft, H.Klose and Feerling. For adults and more advanced students, most likely I develop a custom guide and protocol based on what their focus of interest is. I would provide the necessary information more related to Jazz music style and technique in order to develop a proper language. Read More

I knew I would enjoy teaching others when I was a member of my high school band's leadership team. As I helped others, I found that I truly enjoyed the brilliant moments of success. Aside from teaching, I still enjoy performing on my instruments (sax, guitar, and piano) and am always looking to take on new students! Read More

Since most of the students I teach are members of a band program, I make sure that most of my lessons are based on what is being learned at school. Planning an individual practice schedule is imperative for their success but at the same time make it enjoyable so the student will want to practice. Constant acknowledgement of their progress each lesson the student more eager to learn. Even though the school program may require students to learn from specific material, I also tailor instruction to music they enjoy performing. Read More

I started my musical journey when I learned the banjolele in kindergarten. I switched over to piano soon after and took lessons for a couple of years. My Mom played the piano when she was growing up and always wanted to be in the band. My Dad was in band when he was a kid. He even played in The University of Texas Band when he went there. We had a pretty good band program here in Hurst and I joined In 7th grade (the earliest one could join). Read More
