Lesson plans are catered to the needs and level of each individual student. For younger students with maturing voices, I generally work on basic technique like breathing and posture. I will teach solfege and simple songs that help develop the young singer's ear and a relationship to their voice. For more mature voices, typically above the age of 16, I begin to approach more technical areas of singing like vowel formation, breath energy and management, agility, legato, vocal registration, and a more detailed understanding of the physical anatomy behind singing. My musical life has been extraordinary. Born in Mpls. MN, I attended the Aspen Musical Festival before my departure to Vienna Austria for Master studies in Violin/viola and piano. Scholarship intended for one year ended up a 25 year tenure, teaching, performing in Vienna and raising a family. I returned to the US to become executive director of a music school in MN. I was able to start new after school music programs for elementary schools throughout the district, start an orchestra program and open a theater program for kids. Read More

My teaching began at Music Makers of Western Springs, IL, whereupon I started tutoring young students before any graduate pedagogy studies.  I went by an intuitive understanding of that which I knew on the piano, emulating my former teacher's inimitable style.  It turned out that this experience was invaluable and taught me more than I could learn in a didactic setting, as it was experiencial and hands-on.  I applied this understanding in later years, having taught at two notable music conservatories, and at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where I began as a Teaching Specialist for Preparatory students. Cello is my main instrument, but I have also been teaching piano, guitar, and violin for years. I love teaching and the variety of finding the approach that works best for each individual student. On a personal note, I was married in 2010 and had my first child, a boy, a year later. I live in Northfield but commute up to the Eden Prairie/Chanhassen area for lessons every Monday.
