I have taught all grades Pre-K all the way through 12, and have taught guitar, harmonica, and piano to learners from age 7 up to 60 and beyond. I have creative ways of communicating my thoughts to my students, allowing them to think beyond the familiar and truly understand music in a unique way. I started teaching in college and started with some friends that wanted to learn how to play the piano and sing. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I love to ask questions about the student's thought process, and you will commonly see me "break down" technique into smaller, more digestable pieces. I will also take the time to discuss the musical setting of the piece to give the performance more context. My teaching experience goes back to while Im in my college years, I began teaching private in my own home studio and go around teaching at students home for two years. I love to share what I receive, and to learn from the experience as Im teaching to my students as well. So far in my teaching experience, I focus on building trust and consistency.
