My favorite thing about teaching is getting to discover how others learn. The approach I use for one student will not always work for another. I think every person has a unique learning style and I love to develop new ways to teach concepts to my students. I work to encourage my students to be an active participant in setting and achieving goals in our work together, while maintaining a fun, positive atmosphere. Read More

I like to engage with my students on a personal level in addition to a student/teacher perspective. I've found that when my students are excited to see me each week, they are more willing to follow my instruction and try their best when it comes to practicing. For adults I typically use the John Thompson Adult Piano Course and we work together to find the solo repertoire. For voice lessons, I typically teach the bel canto style. I will work with vocalises that help develop breath control, placement and open vowels. I also use the Music Theory for Singers program to teach Music Theory and also use solfeggi to build sight singing skills. Read More

When they finish their level books, they receive a composer statue. And at each recital they receive a special certificate. We have a recital in the Fall and Spring and play at a nursing home for Christmas. I am a member of OMTA and so we play a memorized piece in the Fall festival and for junior and state auditions in the Spring. Playing for these are not a requirement, but I try and encourage my students to participate. Read More
