I have a minor in music Composition from The University of Colorado, as well as an associate degree in music production from Marymount Manhattan College, and I have technical performance training on guitar, piano, and vocals from The New York Conservatory of Music. I tailor each lesson plan to each individual student's wants and needs. I like to start with having a mutual understanding of the student's goals, desires, and expectations. If a student does not have any concrete goals, I can help them narrow their interests down so that we both have a clear direction in mind. For example, a student's goal could be to work on music for their band class, to prepare for a college audition, to learn a new style, to become more comfortable with a particular grip, to learn specific works of music, or simply to become better acquainted with percussion instruments as a whole. Once a beginner has grasped the very basics I quickly find them some repertoire they want to work on so they can play a ‘real piece of music’. I find that students love that first realisation that they really can play their instrument. For more advanced students or adults we work on repertoire they like and that will push them forward. What is most important is to keep lessons and practice fun and engaging, whether by playing music the student likes or by achieving a goal such as a recital or competition. Read More

Im a passionate teacher and professional multi-instrumentalist. I graduated with a Bachelor in Violin Performance from Appalachian State University in 2012 and have since performed classically with orchestras in eastern Tennessee and across North Carolina as well as with a professional wedding ensemble. Im also active within the Asheville music scene as a bluegrass/folk/Americana musician with two projects, Old Sap and The Jackson Grimm band. In addition to maintaining an active schedule of performances, Ive been able to share the fruit of these experiences with students from across the state over the last 10 years. Read More
