It is so important to have students keep their interests in music and continue their life long journey of music making. Therefore, I would choose the music that fits student's ability and interest, and encourage to practice at his or her own pace. As a teacher, I am not just teaching students the content knowledge, I am also a cheerleader, and a facilitator to their music studies. I want to inspire my students to enjoy music in their day to day life, and have a passion on playing the instrument or making music. Read More

Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! Read More

For beginning students, I use Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures, which offers a variety of supplemental material to encourage a variety of styles. As a musician who values both classical music and improvisation, I teach my students how to use chord sheets very soon after they begin to read music. As their skills increase, so will the variety of music I introduce based on their interest. Since I quit piano at one point around age 10, I empathize with struggling students and try to make music as fun and accessible as possible to help them truly grow a lifelong love of music! Read More

I'm a dedicated and passionate vocalist who is looking forward to sharing my love of music and talents with others so that they too may develop a passion for singing. I graduated from Western Connecticut State University with honors and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. I plan to receive a master's degree in opera studies or vocal pedagogy and then continue to study for my doctorate, (DMA.) I was also born with a special gift known as absolute (perfect) pitch. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop their own style in music and art. This progress happens at his or her own pace. Therefore, it is important that I set realistic goals per student. This leads to a positive teaching and learning environment. I truly believe that art, in this case music, is connected with life and therefore life is connected with art; What I am trying to say is that no matter what the level of the student is, when you teach and learn the right way, it goes way beyond music itself. The teaching methods I use will depend on the student. Each is different. I want them to thrive. I want to teach music because music is a language anyone can learn. It is a language that can overcome politics, tragedies, race, creed, theology, and borders. Music can be a great equalizer and an even greater friend. It touches the soul and mind in ways that we as human beings are still trying to comprehend. Read More
