Serena P

Instruments:

I am a passionate and enthusiastic actress, singer, dancer, pianist, and teaching artist here in Chicago. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Musical Theater program at the University of the Arts, where I realized my love of teaching while tutoring struggling music theory students. I have been performing and teaching ever since I graduated in various musicals and plays throughout the city.

Jonathan R

Instruments:

I have been teaching guitar for the last 12 years, and playing for 19 years. Since I've started, I have been lucky enough to share the stage and become friends with some of the best musicians in Chicago. I have gained experience in a wide variety of musical settings and situations. Three of my most memorable experiences were playing at the UIC Pavilion to 10,000 people, auditioning at the Royal George Theatre, and performing Electric Guitar with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra. I have been very fortunate to have all of these experiences as a musician and at a young age.

Clifford G

Instruments:

I'm a well motivated instructor who enjoys working with students of any age. During and after college I found it rewarding to work with students in a classroom and private setting.Over the past 40 years my students recieved the same in depth musical education that I recieved with an added bonus due to my success and expirience as freelance musician.

Irene Z

Instruments:

I am a second generation pianist and piano teacher who began lessons at the age of 4 under M.M. DePaul graduate and longtime piano teacher, Kathryn, my mother. My musical studies were continued in college at the University of IL at Chicago, and after graduating, at the American Conservatory of Music, where I enrolled in private Masters classes for 7 years (jazz piano, improvisation & other styles). I have over 25 years of international piano and piano/vocal performance experience, which includes the opportunity to perform in Okinawa, Japan at the exquisite 5 star Manza Beach Resort Hotel for 4 months. I have taught piano to children age 5 - adults for 20 years. Teaching is a great joy and inspiration that enriches my life musically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. My ultimate goal is to give my students a life-long passion for making music. I maintain both an active performance and teaching schedule, am a member of Music Teachers National, Chicago Area Music Teachers Association, Piano Teachers Federation and continue my music education through attending seminars, workshops and through taking private lessons.

More Information About Piano Lessons

Most students start out with a keyboard or digital piano. We recommend a full size keyboard with 88 weighted keys - weighted keyboards will have a touch response similar to a real piano. However, if purchasing a real piano is in your budget, we think that a real acoustic piano will provide you and the student with the highest level of satisfaction during practice time.
Taking piano lessons from the comfort of your own home is the most convenient way of learning to the play the instrument - all you need for your lessons is a piano or keyboard to play on! Home lessons remove the hassle of transporting your child to and from their lessons, and can be fitted around busy work schedules more readily. Whether the lesson takes place in-home or in the studio, the content remains the same. Home piano lessons are a particularly good option for younger students. It is a big advance for young students to learn in a familiar, comfortable and supportive environment.
Our piano lessons take place in a one-on-one setting and are customized to the requirements of each individual student. To get started, beginners will cover such aspects to piano playing as; posture, hand positions, fingering technique, scales, chords and applying these things to simple songs. They will also start to develop their knowledge of music theory, reading chord charts and sheet music. As their dexterity, co-ordination and speed progresses, they can start broadening their musical horizons. They can learn new chords, playing and performance techniques and styles, such as legato, staccato, glissando, runs, fills, as well as work on their sight reading and general theory (time signatures, modes, modulation...). Advanced players often want to study a particular genre of composer, or work on certain aspects of their playing and repertoire. This may include improvisation, or exploring different genres or styles, such as Avant Garde, Jazz or Classical piano.
For adults who are looking to learn to play the piano, we recommend that they do so with some clear goals in mind. Maybe you want to learn to play some of your favourite songs, pass an exam or write your own music? Whatever the aim, our experienced teachers can help unlock the skills necessary to make those goals a reality. It can take time to develop the techniques and co-ordination required to play the piano to a competent level. However, playing the piano is a great stress reliever, keeps you mentally active and can help with your hearing and fine-motor skills.
Piano lessons for children will focus on learning the fundamentals of the technique of the instrument and learning to read music and rhythm. We suggest beginning piano lessons no earlier than age 4, due to the attention span of the child, as well as the strength they have in their hands for playing. Piano Lessons will offer an excellent introduction to learning music for a child. Music theory and musicianship skills will also be taught during the lessons. Piano lessons are a great choice for introducing the art of music to your child!
