My teaching style is to get the beginners and intermediate players to able to get to the point where really enjoying their lessons while really improving their skills. This makes me feel very good to see them grow musically. I set reasonable goals for them to strive for and help them get to the next level. As previously stated, I believe that each session should be individualized to best suit each student's needs. For a typical beginner, I will first teach posture and note identification followed by basic warm-ups. Once the basics are taught, the student will be allowed more flexibility in the repertoire and specific skills he/she wants to learn. Like stated in my methods, I strive to provide the best lesson experience for each student. There is a certain ratio of theory to songs that must be achieved and it is different for every student . By teaching the student songs that they want to play we achieve the fun part required for any students success on their instrument. I emphasize the importance of developing good technique and a fundamental understanding of the basic components of music: major and minor scales, arpeggios, chords, modes and chord progressions. I believe that technical facility makes it easier to accomplish musical goals while developing musicianship. I like to tailor my lessons to each student using music that the student brings to me to create lessons and exercises. For students that like to uses books I like to use the Hal Leonard Method books for Guitar, Bass, Banjo, and Ukulele and the Alfred Method books for Piano and Drums. Read More
