During a lesson we will work on technical exercises which are actually really fun and then on a song which the student can choose. The student accompany him/herself on guitar or piano (in the studio) or I can accompany the student on the piano or we can play a backing track (instrumental version of a song). My goal is always to discover what it is that inspires the student to play and have fun doing it, as I believe this is the ultimate motivator for consistent practice and development. That is why I often start by asking the student first if there is anything in particular they want or need to learn, whether it's a song from a movie, video game, or popular radio hit.
